Laboratory Department

The Department of Laboratory Medicine focuses on laboratory testing of infectious diseases, and promotes coordinated and comprehensive development of medical services, talent training, scientific research, and disease prevention. With a strong team of laboratory professionals, state-of-the-art technologies, and instrumentation, the Department provides accurate and reliable laboratory results for disease diagnosis, treatment response monitoring, prognostication evaluation, and serving as evidence for the establishment of disease prevention and control strategies.

The Department consists of six professional groups: Hematology and Body Fluids Laboratory, Immunology Laboratory, Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Molecular Biology Laboratory, and AIDS Confirmatory Laboratory, with complete sub-disciplines. It provides more than 400 routine testing items are provided featuring in the field of detection of common infectious diseases such as emerging infectious diseases, hepatic diseases, AIDS, syphilis, etc. The Department possesses significant advantages which can carry out pathogen detection, antigen and antibody detection, nucleic acid analysis for the diagnosis of various infectious diseases. The Department is an ISO 15189-accredited laboratory, achieving alignment with international standards and high quality, providing strong technical support for accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and strategic prevention and control of infectious diseases.

As a postgraduate training program of Capital Medical University and Peking University Health Science Center, the Department boasts a well-established faculty team responsible for teaching undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students. The Department is conducting more than 20 major research projects funded by the National Key R&D Program and National Natural Science Foundation grants and has achieved remarkable research discoveries with over 100 papers published in which the department's staff were first or corresponding authors in the past five years. The total impact factor of SCI-indexed papers exceeded 200. Having been designated as a National Clinical Key Specialty in 2021, the Department has significantly enhanced its disciplinary influence nationwide, establishing itself as an industry benchmark and continuously driving advancements in the field of medical laboratory science.
