Surgery Department

The Department of General Surgery at Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, is a nationally recognized surgical treatment center specializing in the comprehensive management of complex conditions such as hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors and portal hypertension. It enjoys a strong reputation among both patients and peers. The Department has consistently advanced the standardized diagnosis and treatment of common diseases involving the hepatobiliary system, gastrointestinal tract, breast, and thyroid. In particular, it has accumulated extensive experience and developed a mature clinical system for the surgical treatment of liver, biliary, and periampullary tumors.

Leveraging the multidisciplinary platform of the National Center for Infectious Diseases, the Department has established a distinctive integrated diagnosis and treatment model for conditions such as hepatocellular carcinoma, liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension, and HIV/AIDS-related malignancies. It actively promotes translational therapies for malignant tumors and advances multidisciplinary collaborative care. The department widely applies minimally invasive technologies such as laparoscopy, robotic surgery, and radiofrequency ablation for liver cancer. It has developed a state-of-the-art minimally invasive treatment platform centered around a digital hybrid operating room, driving the application of minimally invasive techniques in complex surgical diseases.

The department currently has 42 inpatient beds and performs nearly 1,000 surgeries annually, including over 500 Grade IV surgical procedures. More than 50% of all surgeries are conducted using minimally invasive approaches, reflecting a nationally leading level of surgical expertise and patient safety.

The team comprises 10 chief and associate chief surgeons and has established a high-level talent structure with young and middle-aged experts as its backbone. As a postgraduate training base, the department is actively involved in clinical education and scientific mentorship, committed to cultivating top-tier medical professionals.

In terms of research and discipline development, the department collaborates with several leading research institutions, undertaking projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Capital Health Research and Development Fund. It has participated in the formulation of multiple clinical guidelines related to liver cancer and portal hypertension. Over the past five years, the department has published more than 30 SCI-indexed papers, obtained 4 patents, and contributed to over 10 academic books, with a strong emphasis on translating research findings into clinical practice.
