Department II of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine is one of the key departments at Beijing Ditan Hospital. It has been designated a National Key TCM Specialty for Liver Diseases by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, honored as a Peak Talent Team by the Beijing Hospital Management Center, and recognized as an Elite Clinical Team for Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine (WM) Liver Disease Discipline, and designated as a Unit for TCM Scientific Achievement Transformation and Intellectual Property Protection. The Department is renowned for its distinctive integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine in treating various liver diseases, achieving remarkable clinical efficacy and multiple innovative research outcomes. It has developed unique TCM-WM diagnosis and treatment protocols, significantly improving outcomes for patients with complex liver conditions.
Through the dedication and accumulation of knowledge across generations, the Department has developed a distinctive diagnosis and treatment philosophy that integrates the complementary strengths of TCM-WM, combining disease-based diagnosis with syndrome differentiation. The Department specializes in managing diverse liver conditions, including abnormal liver function, viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver tumors, autoimmune liver diseases, fatty liver disease, and drug-induced hepatitis. The Department actively promotes comprehensive therapies rooted in TCM characteristics. Centered on customized herbal decoctions, it also employs a variety of distinctive TCM modalities, including auricular acupressure, acupoint application, colonic dialysis, and specialized physiotherapy techniques. These integrative methods have substantially improved the quality of life for patients. It has extensive expertise in integrated TCM-WM approaches and syndrome differentiation for treating acute/chronic hepatitis, liver cancer, portal hypertension and ascites in cirrhosis, hepatic encephalopathy, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, peritonitis, liver disease with diabetes, and fatty liver disease. The Department boasts an outstanding multidisciplinary team integrating clinical practice, research, education, and nursing. It is also recognized as one of the first Humanistic Care Model Departments by the Hospital Management Center.
