Dermatology and Venereology Department
The Department of Dermatology and Venereology at Beijing Ditan Hospital is one of the hospital’s leading disciplines and serves as a teaching unit for Capital Medical University and the Peking University Health Science Center. It houses several national-level research centers under the Chinese Medical Association, including:
• The Clinical Research Center for Syphilis
• The Research Center for Genital Chlamydia Infection
• The Photodynamic Therapy Research Center
The Department has been designated as a key specialty development unit for integrative medicine (TCM-WM integration) under the Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Additionally, it operates as a Drug Resistance Surveillance Site for Gonorrhea in China, contributing to the WHO Global Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Program (GASP). The Department played a key role in compiling China’s national diagnostic standard for "Diagnosis of Genital Chlamydia Trachomatis Infection."
Currently, the Department provides medical services across two campuses (Main Campus and Shunyi Campus). At its peak, it handled over 100,000 outpatient visits annually for several consecutive years. Specializing in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), the department offers comprehensive clinical services for skin diseases and STDs, integrating traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with modern medical approaches. It also hosts specialized outpatient clinics for:
• HPV-related diseases and genital warts
• Syphilis (including neurosyphilis and gestational syphilis)
• Psoriasis
• Atopic dermatitis
Through decades of clinical practice, the Department has developed unique expertise in STDs and infectious dermatoses, establishing itself as Beijing’s largest STD diagnosis and treatment institution. HPV infections/genital warts and syphilis (including neurosyphilis and gestational syphilis) have become its flagship specialties.
